Should Home Gym Reviews Be "Paid Promotional" Videos?
Honest thoughts and questions on if home / garage gym review videos should be "paid promotional" videos? I mean no disrespect to anyone who utilizes these and applaud them for being honest (when I'm sure there are some that are not) for disclosing such videos, but I wonder how much of it can influence the content. I'm also making this video to see what you as the viewer think.

Mike appreciate you making this video. It's definitely a slippery slope to go down. My friend Lon who has a RUclips channel LonTV doesn't do paid promotional videos. Most every video he starts out with saying this product I purchased with my own money and the opinions are about to hear on my own and have not been influenced in any way. Sometimes he does get products from companies to review for free (or they sponser the video) and he notes this in the very beginning, that his opinions are his own and the company didnot get to review video before he put it out. He's been doing RUclips videos for years and he's built a brand reputation that people respect his opinion and know that what he recommends, just like you we know the product is going to be good and he always gives his honest opinion as do you. I understand the amount of time it takes to get a video made especially some of your longer videos that's a lot of your time. Yes you make revenue on the RUclips channel but, you don't have millions of subscribers. Everyone has to start somewhere. I don't know if taking a paid promotional video would lose some of your credibility with some of your fan base I'm sure it would. Others probably wouldn't even care. Again it's pretty much a double-edged sword anyway you look at it. A perfect example there is a woman youTube fitness person I watch Dr. Ennis. She mostly does exercise videos for rehab very rarely do I ever see her promoting a product but she did a promotional video for AG1 supplement which she said she takes personally and really feels the product is benefit so she wanted to share it with her viewers. She received a lot of flack for doing a paid video which she divulged .She responeded to some of the negative comments saying that the only reason why she agreed to do the video is because she really likes the product and she had been using it for many months before she decided to do the video.

Mike, reality is that we as viewers can’t have it both ways. Content creators have to make a living and expecting you guys to not accept offers is not realistic. With that said, so long as you are upfront and honest and as Coop says continue to “serve your audience first” you should absolutely look into opportunities. We want you to win too! No need to feel guilty for exploring other avenues. I don’t think you are likely to push something you don’t believe in and I know companies will still work with you without restricting you to a script.

    • @hybridresistance
      @hybridresistance 11 часов назад

I definitely appreciate your thoughts and feedback on this. The other side of this that I failed to mention in the video is that many of these companies once you agree to such promotions have certain talking points that you have to sign off on that essentially regulates what you can and can’t say in these “reviews.” I also should have stressed. There are a lot of people who do unsponsored videos and can make it work such as myself . So again I don’t judge anyone who takes advantage of them. But I also think it’s definitely not the only way to make it work. But at the end of the day, if the majority of consumers feel the way you do, that’s definitely the smartest move all around.

i first saw this thing back in 2021. The creator of the company is www.youtube.com/@adam_frater who is a calisthenics youtuber. when it first debuted it was half the price it currently is. i believe it was 250 and then a year later it was 350 and now its like 450. not sure why they jumped the price? but they said do to the inflation and stuff. but when they launched it back in '21 the world economy was at its worst, so i dont buy the new reason. its a super cool concept and the reviews i saw originally and up to now have all been pretty positive but personally i could never go for the current price since i originally saw it for half what it is now. also on a side note their customer service is said to be pretty lacking and they ship pretty slow. but who knows it may have changed since last year.

I noticed the mention in the last video and now this... I am an easter egg... lol. Weird and unfortunate about that initial F89. Sole has had a great reputation, for years, for good build quality and (just in case) great warranties. I had wanted to get an f65 or F85, specifically, for years before finally getting an F65, and it has been fantastic with zero issues (and I definitely don't baby it). However, the heart rate monitor is junk. I wear a Tactix 7 Pro nearly 24 hours a day. It's shockingly accurate. I will sometimes be running up a steep incline with a weight vest on and my Tactix is showing a heart rate of 160bpm... then 170... then approaching 180 before I finally back off. The F65 built in monitor? It assures me that my heart rate is only in the 80s or 90s, lol. Comically bad.

To repeat what I've said in the other video; I do use this and find it to be a handy tool that can be done anywhere. I feel I get some good results with it, though I have some critiques to give; I wish there was a noise system that lets you know that the balls are reaching far enough and when they are going off the mark to let you know how many reps you can do with the weight you've set it on. I feel like maybe instead of the words being printed on it, they can be engraved on in case the print wears off and you can still see the numbers. For the Green Giant and Black Beast, I feel like the two sliders should be connected together instead of being separate to make it more convenient. Also, more options for leg exercises would be great.

There is so much play that the outer guides on the board catch on the end of the glide rails on the down stroke on exercises like a squat. I remedied this by cutting the long outer caster spacer 1/8" shorter and adding 1/8" thick washer on the outside of the short inner spacer next to the caster. Did this on both sides. Now the play on the casters to the glide rails is the same as it is on my small frame total gym. (About 1/8" on both casters)

At the time I wanted the new (at that time) version which was a cool modern charcoal grey and black and they were going for over $1000. About 10 years later my sister was looking for something for her place and we found her one of those old gold ones for like $100. Hers is even older than the one in this video as you have to wind up the timer. haha

Where'd you get those magnetic weight plates and the harness belt you were wearing while doing squats?

The Total Gym helped me regain my active lifestyle after major spinal surgery in 1991 and recently helped me avoid shoulder surgery. The system works, especially if you use it regularly.

I watched the TG infomercial a few weeks ago on Comedy Central. Probably been about 30 years since I watched one. A few hours later, I had the thought that I don't think they said the price once in the 1/2 hour. I haven't rewatched to confirm yet. But I do wonder how many grandmas order from QVC, think they will easily fold it up, intend to return it, and never do.

@@briand5047 I think this is a gigantic portion of a demographic. not saying specifically grandmas, but definitely people who are watchingQVC at that time.

I saw a video of you earlier about 4 hours ago, i got on marketplace and actually found a 2022 model Fit for $60. Just got home and gonna put it thru the first session, for the price i got very lucky as it has the squat plate and wing attachments.

@@hybridresistance i was just looking at your 20 minute workout video, im definitely eager to try some of the exercises you showed, however some i will stay away as i have blown rotators in the past; which is the reason why i stopped working out over a decade ago. My initial impression though is that i liked it, i have been fighting the urge to go back and do more.

I do use this and find it to be a handy tool that can be done anywhere.

@@Dadbodsteve1516 I think they may, but I can’t say for certain. I was eyeing those to, but when I start adding that cost on top of this one, it might make more sense to just get a full on different brand of arms that are more versatile. I’m looking at reviewing another one in the near future for what it’s worth.

yet again. great video mike and you’re looking good man. kinda like arnies special ops crew in predator. have been going though your older follow along workouts recently. have been mixing it up with pacing of the reps are feel of the exercises. definitely makes a difference to me anyway on the Total Gym and something i think that probably gets overlooked on the TG as a way of keeping things fresh and interesting for the body. anyway godbless and keep on truckin
